                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the use of the Galveston-Port Bolivar ferry operated by
 1-3     the Texas Department of Transportation.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Chapter 342, Transportation Code, is amended by
 1-6     adding Subchapter G to read as follows:
 1-7                 SUBCHAPTER G.  GALVESTON-PORT BOLIVAR FERRY
 1-8           Sec. 342.501.  FERRY VEHICLE STICKER.  (a)  An owner of a
 1-9     motor vehicle registered under Chapter 502 may apply to the
1-10     department for issuance of a sticker for the vehicle that entitles
1-11     the vehicle to have priority in boarding the Galveston-Port Bolivar
1-12     ferry operated by the department.
1-13           (b)  The department shall:
1-14                 (1)  design the sticker; and
1-15                 (2)  designate the place where a sticker must be
1-16     affixed to the windshield of the motor vehicle for which it is
1-17     issued.
1-18           Sec. 342.502.  FEE.  (a)  The annual fee for a ferry vehicle
1-19     sticker under this subchapter is:
1-20                 (1)  $50, if the vehicle is a commercial motor vehicle,
1-21     as defined by Section 502.001; or
1-22                 (2)  $30, if the vehicle is any other type of motor
1-23     vehicle.
1-24           (b)  The department shall deposit fees collected under
1-25     Subsection (a) to the credit of the state highway fund.
 2-1           Sec. 342.503.  RULES AND FORMS.  (a)  The department may
 2-2     adopt rules to administer this subchapter.
 2-3           (b)  The department shall prescribe forms necessary for the
 2-4     administration of this subchapter.
 2-5           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
