                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to reports concerning the prosecution of offenses
 1-3     committed because of bias or prejudice.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Chapter 2, Code of Criminal Procedure, is amended
 1-6     by adding Article 2.27 to read as follows:
 1-7           Art. 2.27.  REPORT OF OFFENSE COMMITTED BECAUSE OF BIAS OR
 1-8     PREJUDICE.  Not later than the 30th day after the date on which a
 1-9     judgment is entered in a criminal case in which an affirmative
1-10     finding under Article 42.014 is requested by the attorney
1-11     representing the state, the attorney shall notify the office of the
1-12     attorney general of that fact.  The attorney representing the state
1-13     shall include in the report a statement as to whether the
1-14     affirmative finding was entered in the judgment in the case.
1-15           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-16     a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-17     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
1-18     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-19     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
