1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to improving the provision of state veteran services.
 1-3           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-4           SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 434, Government Code, is
 1-5     amended by adding Section 434.0071 to read as follows:
 1-6           Sec. 434.0071.  MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING.  The commission
 1-7     shall adopt a joint memorandum of understanding with the following
 1-8     governmental entities to coordinate the provision of services to
 1-9     state military veterans:
1-10                 (1)  the Texas Workforce Commission;
1-11                 (2)  the Veterans' Land Board; and
1-12                 (3)  any other agency of the state that administers a
1-13     program applicable only to veterans or the family members of
1-14     veterans.
1-15           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-16     a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-17     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
1-18     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-19     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
