                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the procedure under the open meetings law in certain
 1-3     independent school districts for the appointment of a school
 1-4     trustee.
 1-5           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-6           SECTION 1.  Section 551.074, Government Code, is amended by
 1-7     adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
 1-8           (c)  Subsection (a) does not apply to a deliberation by the
 1-9     board of trustees of an independent school district that has an
1-10     enrollment of at least 195,000 students if the board is
1-11     deliberating the appointment of a trustee to fill a vacancy on the
1-12     board of trustees.
1-13           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.  The
1-14     change in law made by this Act applies only to a meeting of a
1-15     school district board of trustees that initially convenes on or
1-16     after September 15, 2001.
