1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the filing deadline for candidacy for the governing
 1-3     body of certain school districts.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Subsection (a), Section 4, Chapter 339, Acts of
 1-6     the 52nd Legislature, Regular Session, 1951 (Article 2774b,
 1-7     Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), is amended to read as follows:
 1-8           (a)  Any person desiring election for a position on any such
 1-9     Board of Trustees shall, by the deadline prescribed by Section
1-10     11.055, Education Code [not less than thirty (30) days prior to the
1-11     date of said election], file with the Board of Trustees ordering
1-12     such election written notice announcing his or her candidacy,
1-13     designating in such written notice and request to have his or her
1-14     name placed on the official ballot the number of the position on
1-15     such Board of Trustees for which he or she, as the case may be,
1-16     desires to become a candidate, and all candidates so requesting
1-17     shall have their names printed on the official ballot beneath the
1-18     number of the position so designated.  A person who does not so
1-19     file said notice and request, accompanied by a filing fee or
1-20     petition as provided by Subsections (b) and (c) of this section,
1-21     within the time aforesaid is not entitled to have his or her name
1-22     printed upon said official ballot to be used at any such election.
1-23     No candidate shall be eligible to have his or her name placed on
1-24     the official ballot under more than one (1) position to be filled
1-25     at any such election.
 2-1           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
