1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-7 AN ACT
1-8 relating to the filing deadline for candidacy for the governing
1-9 body of certain school districts.
1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-11 SECTION 1. Subsection (a), Section 4, Chapter 339, Acts of
1-12 the 52nd Legislature, Regular Session, 1951 (Article 2774b,
1-13 Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), is amended to read as follows:
1-14 (a) Any person desiring election for a position on any such
1-15 Board of Trustees shall, by the deadline prescribed by Section
1-16 11.055, Education Code [not less than thirty (30) days prior to the
1-17 date of said election], file with the Board of Trustees ordering
1-18 such election written notice announcing his or her candidacy,
1-19 designating in such written notice and request to have his or her
1-20 name placed on the official ballot the number of the position on
1-21 such Board of Trustees for which he or she, as the case may be,
1-22 desires to become a candidate, and all candidates so requesting
1-23 shall have their names printed on the official ballot beneath the
1-24 number of the position so designated. A person who does not so
1-25 file said notice and request, accompanied by a filing fee or
1-26 petition as provided by Subsections (b) and (c) of this section,
1-27 within the time aforesaid is not entitled to have his or her name
1-28 printed upon said official ballot to be used at any such election.
1-29 No candidate shall be eligible to have his or her name placed on
1-30 the official ballot under more than one (1) position to be filled
1-31 at any such election.
1-32 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
