By Ellis S.B. No. 1191 77R8441 JSA-F A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to the degree-granting authority of The University of 1-3 Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. 1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-5 SECTION 1. Section 73.102, Education Code, is amended by 1-6 amending Subsection (b) and by adding Subsection (c) to read as 1-7 follows: 1-8 (b) If the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board 1-9 determines that the role and mission of the institution should be 1-10 changed to include degree-granting authority, the board of regents 1-11 may: 1-12 (1) prescribe courses and conduct allied health 1-13 professional degree programs related to the purposes of the 1-14 institution described by Subsection (a); and 1-15 (2) jointly prescribe courses and jointly conduct 1-16 graduate programs at the master's and doctoral levels related to 1-17 those purposes with The University of Texas Health Science Center 1-18 at Houston Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. 1-19 (c) The degree programs to be offered under Subsection (b) 1-20 are subject to approval by the coordinating board. 1-21 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives 1-22 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as 1-23 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this 1-24 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this 2-1 Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
