A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating civil service status of fire fighters in certain cities.
1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-4 SECTION 1. Section 143.003(4), Local Government Code, is
1-5 amended to read as follows:
1-6 (4) "Fire fighter" means a member of a fire department who
1-7 is appointed in substantial compliance with this Chapter or who is
1-8 entitled to civil service status under Section 143.005 or 143.084.
1-9 The term includes employees [fire fighters] who perform:
1-10 (A) fire suppression;
1-11 (B) fire prevention;
1-12 (C) fire training;
1-13 (D) fire safety education;
1-14 (E) fire maintenance;
1-15 (F) fire communications;
1-16 (G) fire medical emergency technology;
1-17 (H) fire photography; [or]
1-18 (I) fire administration; or
1-19 (J) fire arson investigation.
1-20 SECTION 2. This act takes effect on September 1, 2001.
