                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to a county's authority to set a fee or other charge for
 1-3     certain licenses, permits, registrations, or other administrative
 1-4     expenses.
 1-5           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-6           SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 251, Transportation Code,
 1-7     is amended by adding Section 251.017 to read as follows:
 1-8           Sec. 251.017.  COUNTY AUTHORITY TO SET FEE.  The
 1-9     commissioners court of a county may set a reasonable fee for the
1-10     county's issuance of a license, permit, or registration authorized
1-11     by this chapter for which a fee is not specifically prescribed.
1-12           SECTION 2.  Subchapter I, Chapter 16, Water Code, is amended
1-13     by adding Section 16.324 to read as follows:
1-14           Sec. 16.324.  COUNTY AUTHORITY TO SET FEES.  The
1-15     commissioners court of a county may set reasonable and necessary
1-16     fees to administer this subchapter.
1-17           SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
