                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to conducting a study to determine the need for a
 1-3     commission on Native American affairs.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. (a)  The governor shall appoint a committee to
 1-6     study the need for establishing a commission on Native American
 1-7     affairs.  The committee shall consist of six members appointed by
 1-8     the governor.  At least one member must be a Native American.
 1-9           (b)  Not later than December 1, 2002, the committee shall
1-10     report its recommendation to the governor, the lieutenant governor,
1-11     and the speaker of the house of representatives.
1-12           (c)  This Act expires and the committee is abolished on June
1-13     1, 2003.
1-14           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
