                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to municipal permits and fees for overweight or oversize
 1-3     vehicles and combinations.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 623, Transportation Code, is
 1-6     amended by adding Section 623.020 to read as follows:
 1-7           Sec. 623.020. MUNICIPAL PERMITS AND FEES.  (a)  A
 1-8     municipality may require the operator of a vehicle or combination
 1-9     operating under a permit under Section 623.011 to obtain a permit
1-10     from the municipality or to pay a reasonable fee required by the
1-11     municipality to operate or move the vehicle or combination on a
1-12     public highway in the municipality.
1-13           (b)  A municipality may charge a reasonable fee for a permit
1-14     issued by the municipality under Subsection (a).
1-15           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-16     a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-17     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
1-18     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-19     Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
