                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the creation of pilot projects for demonstrating the
 1-3     application of technology to the provision of long-term care,
 1-4     community care, and certain other medical assistance.
 1-5           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-6           SECTION 1.  Subchapter B, Chapter 531, Government Code, is
 1-7     amended by adding Section 531.02171 to read as follows:
 1-8           Sec. 531.02171.  ESTABLISHMENT OF PILOT PROJECTS.
 1-9     Notwithstanding any other law, the commission may establish one or
1-10     more pilot projects allowing for reimbursement under Chapter 32,
1-11     Human Resource Code, to demonstrate the application of technology
1-12     in the provision of services.  A pilot project may relate to
1-13     long-term care, community care and support, rehabilitation, care
1-14     for the aged or disabled, or other forms of medical assistance.
1-15           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-16     a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1-17     provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
1-18     Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
1-19     Act take effect September 1, 2001.
