                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to responses to medical grievances filed by inmates
 1-3     confined in Texas correctional facilities.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Section 501.150, Government Code, is amended by
 1-6     adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
 1-7           (d)  If the department refers a medical grievance to a
 1-8     medical care provider, the medical care provider shall respond to
 1-9     the grievance inquiry not later than the 20th day after the date
1-10     the department refers the grievance.
1-11           SECTION 2.  Section 501.151, Government Code, is amended by
1-12     adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
1-13           (d)  If the committee refers a medical grievance to a medical
1-14     care provider, the medical care provider shall respond to the
1-15     grievance inquiry not later than the 20th day after the date the
1-16     committee refers the grievance.
1-17           SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001, and
1-18     applies to a medical grievance referred to a medical care provider
1-19     under Section 501.150 or 501.151, Government Code, as amended by
1-20     this Act, on or after that date.
