No. 1582 By: Bivins 1-8 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-9 AN ACT 1-10 relating to responses to medical grievances filed by inmates 1-11 confined in Texas correctional facilities. 1-12 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-13 SECTION 1. Section 501.150, Government Code, is amended by 1-14 adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: 1-15 (d) If the department refers a medical grievance to a 1-16 medical care provider, the medical care provider shall respond to 1-17 the grievance inquiry not later than the 30th day after the date 1-18 the department refers the grievance. 1-19 SECTION 2. Section 501.151, Government Code, is amended by 1-20 adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: 1-21 (d) If the committee refers a medical grievance to a medical 1-22 care provider, the medical care provider shall respond to the 1-23 grievance inquiry not later than the 30th day after the date the 1-24 committee refers the grievance. 1-25 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001, and 1-26 applies to a medical grievance referred to a medical care provider 1-27 under Section 501.150 or 501.151, Government Code, as amended by 1-28 this Act, on or after that date. 1-29 * * * * *
