                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the retirement eligibility of certain classroom
 1-3     teachers in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. Section 824.202, Government Code, is amended by
 1-6     adding Subsection (g) to read as follows:
 1-7           (g)  For the sole purpose of determining retirement
 1-8     eligibility under Subsection (a)(4), the retirement system shall
 1-9     consider for a member who has at least 20 years of service credit
1-10     as a classroom teacher up to two years of service performed as a
1-11     participant in the optional retirement program under Chapter 830 as
1-12     if it were service for which credit is established in the
1-13     retirement system.
1-14           SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
