                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the career and technology education programs of public
 1-3     schools.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1.  Section Subchapter F, Section 29.181, Education
 1-6     Code, is amended to read as follows:
 1-7           Each public school student shall master the basic skills and
 1-8     knowledge necessary for:
 1-9                 (1)  managing the dual roles of family member and wage
1-10     earner; [and]
1-11                 (2)  gaining entry-level employment in a high-skill,
1-12     high-wage job or continuing the student's education at the
1-13     postsecondary level; and
1-14                 (3)  making informed career and job choices based on an
1-15     experience of workplace characteristics; descriptions of the
1-16     operating equipment, conditions and how persons do work today;
1-17     establishing a connection with the workplace to provide a sense of
1-18     the workplace and its environment; and expectations of the various
1-19     workplaces.
1-20           SECTION 2.  This legislation takes effect September 1, 2001.
