 1-6                            A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-7                                   AN ACT
 1-8     relating to the career and technology education programs of public
 1-9     schools.
1-10           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-11           SECTION 1.  Section 29.181, Education Code, is amended to
1-12     read as follows:
1-13           Sec. 29.181.  PUBLIC EDUCATION CAREER AND TECHNOLOGY
1-14     EDUCATION GOALS.  Each public school student shall master the basic
1-15     skills and knowledge necessary for:
1-16                 (1)  managing the dual roles of family member and wage
1-17     earner; [and]
1-18                 (2)  gaining entry-level employment in a high-skill,
1-19     high-wage job or continuing the student's education at the
1-20     postsecondary level; and
1-21                 (3)  making informed career and job choices based on
1-22     experience with workplace characteristics and descriptions of the
1-23     operating equipment, conditions, and how persons do work today; on
1-24     establishing a connection with the workplace that provides a sense
1-25     of the workplace and its environment; and on expectations at the
1-26     various workplaces.
1-27           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2001.
