1-1 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1-2 WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to
1-3 recognize the City of Electra and to proclaim this exceptional city
1-4 the Pump Jack Capital of Texas; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Located in the northwestern quadrant of Wichita
1-6 County, the City of Electra is well known as an oil town; the city
1-7 is the center of activities generated by the production of crude
1-8 oil from approximately 5,000 wells and is surrounded by oil pools,
1-9 power stations, pumping wells, and storage and pipeline facilities;
1-10 and
1-11 WHEREAS, In 1911, the discovery of oil at the site of Clayco
1-12 1 on April Fools' Day thrust the City of Electra into the history
1-13 books as one of the most significant oil producing regions in the
1-14 state; and
1-15 WHEREAS, More than 5,000 pump jacks can be found within a
1-16 10-mile radius of Electra; the pump jacks range from those of the
1-17 early days to the modern ones used today, and the remarkable
1-18 concentration of pump jacks dotting the land has earned the area
1-19 widespread acclaim for its uniqueness; and
1-20 WHEREAS, The city takes pride in its pump jacks and is
1-21 hosting a Pump Jack Festival to celebrate its heritage and the
1-22 plentiful supply of oil in the area; the mission of the festival is
1-23 to increase tourism and showcase the City of Electra's hospitality,
1-24 civic attributes, and investment opportunities; and
1-25 WHEREAS, Electra boasts a wealth of natural resources and the
2-1 fruits of years of steady development; its citizens have a strong
2-2 sense of community spirit and of their city's history, and they
2-3 view the pump jacks as wholesome symbols of prosperity and of the
2-4 work of their forebears; now, therefore, be it
2-5 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas
2-6 hereby commend the City of Electra on its exemplary citizens and
2-7 many amenities and declare Electra the Pump Jack Capital of Texas;
2-8 and, be it further
2-9 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for the
2-10 City of Electra as an expression of esteem from the Texas
2-11 Legislature.
