 1-1                        SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas takes great
 1-3     pride in celebrating the achievements of The University of Texas M.
 1-4     D. Anderson Cancer Center on the occasion of its 60th anniversary;
 1-5     and
 1-6           WHEREAS, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center has achieved an
 1-7     international reputation for excellence and has been ranked by U.S.
 1-8     News and World Report as the nation's best cancer hospital; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Nearly 500,000 people--the majority of them
1-10     Texans--have been served at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in
1-11     Houston, and other patients throughout the world have benefited
1-12     from numerous research discoveries made by the institution's
1-13     faculty and staff; and
1-14           WHEREAS, All Texans forced to contend with cancer benefit
1-15     from having a center of such exceptional merit attending to their
1-16     health needs; and
1-17           WHEREAS, This fine medical institution sets an international
1-18     standard of care for cancer patients and truly brings honor to
1-19     Texas; and
1-20           WHEREAS, More than 40,000 physicians, scientists, nurses, and
1-21     health care professionals have trained at M. D. Anderson Cancer
1-22     Center, and the institution has embraced cancer prevention, public
1-23     education, and community service as key elements of its mission;
1-24     and
 2-1           WHEREAS, The support of The University of Texas System Board
 2-2     of Regents and the citizen-volunteers of The University Cancer
 2-3     Foundation Board of Visitors has been vital to the success of M. D.
 2-4     Anderson Cancer Center; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Thousands of patients, faculty, employees,
 2-6     volunteers, and donors have come together over the last 60 years to
 2-7     foster the extraordinary partnership that assures M. D. Anderson
 2-8     Cancer Center will continue making cancer history; now, therefore,
 2-9     be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas
2-11     hereby express gratitude to The University of Texas M. D. Anderson
2-12     Cancer Center on behalf of all whose lives have been touched by
2-13     this remarkable institution and extend congratulations on the 60th
2-14     anniversary to the dedicated faculty, staff, volunteers, and
2-15     supporters; and, be it further
2-16           RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for The
2-17     University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center as an expression
2-18     of high regard from the Texas Legislature.
