By: Jackson S.C.R. No. 46 1-1 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The 2001 Friendswood High School academic decathlon 1-3 team earned first place at the state competition, and this 1-4 outstanding accomplishment merits special legislative recognition; 1-5 and 1-6 WHEREAS, The academic decathlon challenges students in a wide 1-7 variety of subjects, including calculus, fine arts, music, 1-8 literature, and economics; under the leadership of coaches Mary 1-9 Rinehart and Renae Simon, Friendswood accrued 43,646 team points to 1-10 capture the state title for the ninth consecutive year and also won 1-11 $17,500 in scholarships; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Friendswood is one of only two schools from the Lone 1-13 Star State to qualify for a national academic decathlon competition 1-14 in Anchorage, Alaska; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Friendswood's achievements this year would not have 1-16 been possible without the contributions of all of the talented team 1-17 members, including Daniel Majchrowicz, Tiffany Chu, Zach VanMeter, 1-18 Blake Benford, Nureen Haq, Ky Jurgensen, Rachel Brizendine, Amanda 1-19 Lampton, and Ken Morris; and 1-20 WHEREAS, With their determination and competitive spirit, the 1-21 members of this year's team have upheld the school's tradition of 1-22 excellence in academic decathlons, and it is indeed most fitting to 1-23 honor them at this time; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-1 hereby congratulate the 2001 Friendswood High School academic 2-2 decathlon team for winning the state competition and extend to its 2-3 coaches, team members, and supporters sincere best wishes for 2-4 continued success and good fortune at the national competition; 2-5 and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-7 prepared for the members of the Friendswood High School academic 2-8 decathlon team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House 2-9 of Representatives and Senate.
