No. 46 77R10677 MJS-D CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The 2001 Friendswood High School academic decathlon 1-2 team earned first place at the state competition, and this 1-3 outstanding accomplishment merits special legislative recognition; 1-4 and 1-5 WHEREAS, The academic decathlon challenges students in a wide 1-6 variety of subjects, including calculus, fine arts, music, 1-7 literature, and economics; under the leadership of coaches Mary 1-8 Rinehart and Renae Simon, Friendswood accrued 43,646 team points to 1-9 capture the state title for the ninth consecutive year and also won 1-10 $17,500 in scholarships; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Friendswood is one of only two schools from the Lone 1-12 Star State to qualify for a national academic decathlon competition 1-13 in Anchorage, Alaska; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Friendswood's achievements this year would not have 1-15 been possible without the contributions of all of the talented team 1-16 members, including Daniel Majchrowicz, Tiffany Chu, Zach VanMeter, 1-17 Blake Benford, Nureen Haq, Ky Jurgensen, Rachel Brizendine, Amanda 1-18 Lampton, and Ken Morris; and 1-19 WHEREAS, With their determination and competitive spirit, the 1-20 members of this year's team have upheld the school's tradition of 1-21 excellence in academic decathlons, and it is indeed most fitting to 1-22 honor them at this time; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-24 hereby congratulate the 2001 Friendswood High School academic 2-1 decathlon team for winning the state competition and extend to its 2-2 coaches, team members, and supporters sincere best wishes for 2-3 continued success and good fortune at the national competition; 2-4 and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for the members of the Friendswood High School academic 2-7 decathlon team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House 2-8 of Representatives and Senate.
