1-1                        SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas joins with
 1-3     citizens of Dublin, Texas, in mourning the passing of a beloved
 1-4     local businessman, William "Bill" Kloster, who died September 27,
 1-5     1999, at the age of 81; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Bill Kloster, known affectionately as "Mr. Dr
 1-7     Pepper," was the owner and manager of the Dublin Dr Pepper Bottling
 1-8     Company, the nation's oldest Dr Pepper bottling plant; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Born in 1918 in Dublin, Mr. Kloster began working at
1-10     the Dr Pepper plant in 1933; after serving his country in World War
1-11     II, he returned to the business, working for years as the plant's
1-12     general manager; he inherited the entire operation in 1991; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Throughout his service as manager and owner of
1-14     Dublin Dr Pepper Bottling Company, Mr. Kloster became renowned for
1-15     his steadfast adherence to traditional Dr Pepper production
1-16     methods; though modern business practices dictated closing his
1-17     small establishment and using cheaper ingredients, he resisted all
1-18     attempts at change; and
1-19           WHEREAS, For his tenacity, Mr. Kloster was rewarded by Dr
1-20     Pepper drinkers the world over who preferred the refreshingly
1-21     distinct taste of the Dublin product; despite being one of the
1-22     smallest Dr Pepper franchise territories, the Dublin plant
1-23     consistently ranked among the top 10 producers in per capita
1-24     consumption; and
1-25           WHEREAS, A hard worker who dedicated his life to producing a
 2-1     quality product, Mr. Kloster will also be remembered as a kind and
 2-2     generous man who loved giving back to his community; this devoted
 2-3     businessman and community leader leaves behind memories that will
 2-4     be treasured forever by his family and many friends; now,
 2-5     therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas
 2-7     hereby extend its sincere condolences to the family of William
 2-8     Kloster:  his son, William E. Kloster; his sister, Katharine
 2-9     Tillatson; his two grandsons; and his two great-grandchildren; and,
2-10     be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared as an
2-12     expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Legislature, and that
2-13     when the legislature adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-14     William Kloster.
