 1-1                        SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-2           WHEREAS, Many brave and honorable peace officers have served
 1-3     the people of Nacogdoches County; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Of those many dedicated officers, five have given
 1-5     their lives to protect and serve our community; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Sheriff T. G. Vaught was killed in the line of duty
 1-7     on January 6, 1928; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Deputy Sheriff John A. Hargis, Sr., was killed in
 1-9     the line of duty on August 23, 1928; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Officer Bennett T. Spradley was killed in the line
1-11     of duty on December 2, 1948; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Constable Darrell E. Lunsford, Sr., was killed in
1-13     the line of duty on January 23, 1991; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Deputy Sheriff Tom A. Sitton was killed in the line
1-15     of duty on May 24, 1996; and
1-16           WHEREAS, These heroic peace officers sacrificed their lives
1-17     for the citizens of Nacogdoches County; and
1-18           WHEREAS, As a community, it is our responsibility to remember
1-19     that sacrifice and pay tribute to them; and
1-20           WHEREAS, On May 15, 2001, the Nacogdoches County Law
1-21     Enforcement Memorial was dedicated on the grounds of the Law
1-22     Enforcement Center; now, therefore, be it
1-23           RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas
1-24     remember and honor the lives of the fallen peace officers of
 2-1     Nacogdoches County  and recognize the Law Enforcement Memorial as a
 2-2     tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the citizens of
 2-3     Nacogdoches County.
