No. 66 77R17031 MJS-F CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, Many brave and honorable peace officers have served 1-2 the people of Nacogdoches County; and 1-3 WHEREAS, Of those many dedicated officers, five have given 1-4 their lives to protect and serve our community; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Sheriff T. G. Vaught was killed in the line of duty 1-6 on January 6, 1928; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Deputy Sheriff John A. Hargis, Sr., was killed in 1-8 the line of duty on August 23, 1928; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Officer Bennett T. Spradley was killed in the line 1-10 of duty on December 2, 1948; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Constable Darrell E. Lunsford, Sr., was killed in 1-12 the line of duty on January 23, 1991; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Deputy Sheriff Tom A. Sitton was killed in the line 1-14 of duty on May 24, 1996; and 1-15 WHEREAS, These heroic peace officers sacrificed their lives 1-16 for the citizens of Nacogdoches County; and 1-17 WHEREAS, As a community, it is our responsibility to remember 1-18 that sacrifice and pay tribute to them; and 1-19 WHEREAS, On May 15, 2001, the Nacogdoches County Law 1-20 Enforcement Memorial was dedicated on the grounds of the Law 1-21 Enforcement Center; now, therefore, be it 1-22 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-23 remember and honor the lives of the fallen peace officers of 1-24 Nacogdoches County and recognize the Law Enforcement Memorial as a 2-1 tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the citizens of 2-2 Nacogdoches County.
