1-1 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Legislature and citizens of 1-3 Palestine were saddened by the news of the death of Allen Grobe, a 1-4 former speaker of the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature, on March 1-5 23, 2001; and 1-6 WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Grobe was born in Colorado 1-7 County on February 23, 1918, and spent his formative years in the 1-8 small town of Weimar; he served in the United States Navy during 1-9 World War II, and was employed as an office manager with Equifax 1-10 for many years; and 1-11 WHEREAS, This dedicated community leader was a charter member 1-12 of TRIAD, an ombudsman for the Texas Department on Aging, 1-13 assistant state director of the AARP, and speaker emeritus for the 1-14 Agency on Aging; in addition, he taught defensive driving for more 1-15 than a decade and was a guest writer for the Palestine Herald Press 1-16 for 15 years; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Named the 1999 Volunteer of the Year by Meals on 1-18 Wheels, Mr. Grobe was a respected member of the organization's 1-19 board and earned the gratitude and admiration of his friends, 1-20 family, and fellow citizens through 12 years dedicated to 1-21 addressing the concerns of older Texans as a member and speaker of 1-22 the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Mr. Grobe was a valued member of the Court Drive 1-24 Church of Christ, a devoted family man, and an outstanding Texan, 1-25 and while he will be greatly missed, his tremendous efforts in 2-1 behalf of others will be remembered for years to come; now, 2-2 therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-4 hereby pay tribute to the life of Allen Grobe and extend sincere 2-5 sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of more than 60 2-6 years, Evelyn Ann Grobe; to his daughters, Judy Nicholson, Beth 2-7 Wade, Ginger Herbert, Peg Hinson, and Terri Lowry; to his sisters, 2-8 Edith Zander and Ruth Huse; to his 18 grandchildren and 19 2-9 great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends; 2-10 and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of 2-13 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory 2-14 of Allen Grobe. _______________________________ _______________________________ President of the Senate Speaker of the House I hereby certify that S.C.R.
