                                 A JOINT RESOLUTION
 1-1     proposing a constitutional amendment to authorize garnishment of
 1-2     wages for the enforcement of a judgment.
 1-3           BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-4           SECTION 1. Section 28, Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is
 1-5     amended to read as follows:
 1-6           Sec. 28.  No current wages for personal service shall ever be
 1-7     subject to garnishment, except for the enforcement of:
 1-8                 (1)  court-ordered[:] child support payments or [; or]
 1-9                 [(2)]  spousal maintenance; or
1-10                 (2)  a judgment entered by a court.
1-11           SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
1-12     submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 5, 2002.
1-13     The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against
1-14     the  proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing
1-15     garnishment of wages for the enforcement of a judgment."
