 1-7     Amend S.J.R. No. 26, on page 1, line 18, by striking the word
 1-8     "perpetual".
 1-9                           SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION
1-10     proposing a constitutional amendment to remove the prohibition
1-11     against perpetual trusts.
1-12           BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-13           SECTION 1.  Section 26, Article I, Texas Constitution, is
1-14     amended to read as follows:
1-15           Sec. 26.  Perpetuities and monopolies are contrary to the
1-16     genius of a free government, and shall never be allowed, nor shall
1-17     the law of primogeniture or entailments ever be in force in this
1-18     State.  This section does not apply to perpetual trusts.
1-19           SECTION 2.  This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
1-20     submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 6, 2001.
1-21     The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
1-22     proposition:  "The constitutional amendment removing the
1-23     prohibition against perpetual trusts."
