1-1                           SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION
 1-2     proposing a constitutional amendment to authorize the legislature
 1-3     to exempt from ad valorem taxation raw cocoa and green coffee that
 1-4     is held in Harris County.
 1-5           BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-6           SECTION 1.  Article VIII, Texas Constitution, is amended by
 1-7     adding Section 1-n to read as follows:
 1-8           Sec. 1-n.  (a)  The legislature by general law may exempt
 1-9     from ad valorem taxation raw cocoa and green coffee that is held in
1-10     Harris County.
1-11           (b)  The legislature may impose additional requirements for
1-12     qualification for an exemption under this section.
1-13           SECTION 2.  This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
1-14     submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 6, 2001.
1-15     The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
1-16     proposition:  "The constitutional amendment to authorize the
1-17     legislature to exempt from ad valorem taxation raw cocoa and green
1-18     coffee that is held in Harris County."
