No. 47 1-2 (In the Senate - Filed March 9, 2001; March 14, 2001, read 1-3 first time and referred to Committee on Intergovernmental 1-4 Relations; April 17, 2001, reported favorably by the following 1-5 vote: Yeas 6, Nays 0; April 17, 2001, sent to printer.) 1-6 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 1-7 proposing a constitutional amendment to authorize the legislature 1-8 to exempt from ad valorem taxation raw cocoa and green coffee that 1-9 is held in Harris County. 1-10 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-11 SECTION 1. Article VIII, Texas Constitution, is amended by 1-12 adding Section 1-n to read as follows: 1-13 Sec. 1-n. (a) The legislature by general law may exempt 1-14 from ad valorem taxation raw cocoa and green coffee that is held in 1-15 Harris County. 1-16 (b) The legislature may impose additional requirements for 1-17 qualification for an exemption under this section. 1-18 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be 1-19 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 6, 2001. 1-20 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the 1-21 proposition: "The constitutional amendment to authorize the 1-22 legislature to exempt from ad valorem taxation raw cocoa and green 1-23 coffee that is held in Harris County." 1-24 * * * * *
