1-1 ****** NEED TWO-PAGE HEADER ****** 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 17 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins citizens 1-4 across the state and nation in recognizing June 18 through 24, 2001, 1-5 as Prostate Cancer Awareness Week and September, 2001, as Prostate 1-6 Cancer Awareness Month; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Prostate cancer is one of the most important health 1-8 issues facing men today, and the earlier detection, the greater the 1-9 rate of survival; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The most powerful tool to detect prostate cancer 1-11 early is by following the prostate screening guidelines of a health 1-12 care professional, and designating a prostate cancer awareness week 1-13 and month is a valuable contribution to the preservation of a man's 1-14 health; and 1-15 WHEREAS, It is estimated that about 25 percent of prostate 1-16 cancer is found in men under the age of 65 during the prime of their 1-17 lives leaving parents, wives, and children without a son, husband, 1-18 or father; and 1-19 WHEREAS, In focusing attention on the second leading cause 1-20 of cancer-related deaths in men, it is hoped that fewer lives 2-1 will be lost to this disease and future generations will be 2-2 spared much of the devastating toll that prostate cancer takes; 2-3 now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-5 77th Legislature, hereby declare June 18 through 24, 2001, as 2-6 Prostate Cancer Awareness Week and September, 2001, as Prostate 2-7 Cancer Awareness Month; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared to 2-9 commemorate these occasions. 2-10 Wentworth 2-11 ______________________________________ 2-12 President of the Senate 2-13 I hereby certify that the above 2-14 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-15 on January 16, 2001. 2-16 ______________________________________ 2-17 Secretary of the Senate 2-18 ______________________________________ 2-19 Member, Texas Senate
