1-1 ****** NEED TWO-PAGE HEADER ****** 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 18 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas proudly celebrates 1-4 the birthday of one of the nation's most influential leaders, 1-5 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Dr. King worked to change the oppressive social 1-7 conditions affecting minorities in our nation; an eloquent and 1-8 forceful orator, he delivered a righteous message which inspired 1-9 a generation to embrace the cause of civil rights for all; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Like the leader Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. King motivated 1-11 his followers to use peaceful protest to bring about positive 1-12 change; he raised the hopes of those willing to work hard and 1-13 to dream, spurring them on to accomplish great things through 1-14 nonviolence; and 1-15 WHEREAS, To mark the occasion of this great leader's birth, 1-16 the Martin Luther King, Jr., Community Center Board and State Farm 1-17 Insurance presented the 20th Annual King Celebration Awards Banquet 1-18 on Saturday, January 13, 2001; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The year's banquet encourages others to continue 1-20 Dr. King's noble work through its theme, "Remember! Celebrate!
