1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 21 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas proudly 1-4 congratulates Derek Lewis Iden on his accomplishment of 1-5 graduating from the Game Warden Academy; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Game wardens are a vital part of efforts in 1-7 Texas to preserve the natural beauty of its wildlife; their 1-8 duties entail everything from enforcing game and fish laws 1-9 to performing rescue missions in the wild; and 1-10 WHEREAS, More recently, game wardens have taken on new 1-11 roles in addition to their traditional duties; officials now 1-12 serve as educators, making presentations to schools and private 1-13 groups about wildlife conservation; and 1-14 WHEREAS, To become a game warden, cadets must complete 1-15 a six month training program in Austin, where the curriculum 1-16 consists of classroom instruction, physical training, skills 1-17 training, and academic tests; while attending the program, 1-18 cadets must also maintain an elite standard of physical fitness; 1-19 and 1-20 WHEREAS, Graduates of the Game Warden Academy leave the 1-21 institution as licensed peace officers, sobriety practitioners, 1-22 marine safety officers, and boater, hunter, and angler 1-23 instructors; and 2-1 WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at San Antonio, 2-2 Derek entered the Game Warden Academy on July 1, 2000, and he will 2-3 graduate on January 17, 2001; and 2-4 WHEREAS, After spending almost seven months in training, 2-5 Derek has mastered the demanding curriculum of the Game Warden 2-6 Academy; he now has the knowledge and skills necessary to protect 2-7 the parks and wildlife of Texas; in carrying out his duties as a 2-8 game warden in Atascosa County, he performs a vital service for 2-9 the citizens of this great state; now, therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-11 77th Legislature, hereby congratulate Derek Lewis Iden on 2-12 the occasion of his graduation from the Game Warden Academy 2-13 and wish him best of luck in his new position in Atascosa County; 2-14 and, be it further 2-15 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him 2-16 as an expression of high esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-17 Madla 2-18 ______________________________________ 2-19 President of the Senate 2-20 I hereby certify that the above 2-21 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-22 on January 16, 2001. 2-23 ______________________________________ 2-24 Secretary of the Senate
