1-1 ****** NEED TWO-PAGE HEADER ****** 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 35 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-4 recognizing the Dallas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta 1-5 Sorority, Incorporated, on the momentous occasion of its 1-6 77th anniversary; and 1-7 WHEREAS, In addition to marking its anniversary, the 1-8 Dallas Alumnae Chapter will celebrate its 77th year of providing 1-9 important programs to the local community; honoring the founder, 1-10 Frederica Chase Dodd, at the Founders Day Luncheon will be the 1-11 order of the day on January 20, 2001, at the Wyndham Anatole Hotel 1-12 in Dallas; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The theme for this year is "Keeping the Connection: 1-14 Building on the Past...Focusing on the Future," and the keynote 1-15 speaker is Bishop Vashti McKenzie; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Founded in 1913, and the largest predominately 1-17 African American women's organization committed to public service, 1-18 Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, is a sisterhood of more 1-19 than 200,000 women in 850 chapters in this country and around the 1-20 world; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Members of the Dallas Alumnae Chapter have dedicated 1-22 themselves to improving the quality of life in their communities 2-1 since 1924; their projects seek to empower, to mentor, and to 2-2 educate the economically disadvantaged; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Some of the programs involve SAT preparation for 2-4 high school juniors and seniors, scholarships for high school 2-5 graduates, and serving as volunteers at schools, area libraries, 2-6 nursing homes, and Teen Town Hall Leadership Programs; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta is a source of strength and 2-8 information to its many members, helping individuals to meet 2-9 the educational challenges in today's world; now, therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-11 77th Legislature, hereby commend the Dallas Alumnae Chapter of 2-12 Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, on its 77 years of 2-13 outstanding public service; and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an 2-15 expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate. 2-16 West 2-17 ______________________________________ 2-18 President of the Senate 2-19 I hereby certify that the above 2-20 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-21 on January 17, 2001. 2-22 ______________________________________ 2-23 Secretary of the Senate 2-24 ______________________________________ 2-25 Member, Texas Senate
