1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 80 1-3 WHEREAS, The Student Government Association of 1-4 Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches is visiting 1-5 the State Capitol on January 24, 2001, and this significant 1-6 occasion is worthy of special recognition; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Founded approximately 40 years ago, the Student 1-8 Government Association is an effective conduit through which 1-9 students express concerns and suggestions to faculty and staff; 1-10 furthermore, the organization sponsors campus events and adopts 1-11 measures to improve the quality of student life at the university; 1-12 and 1-13 WHEREAS, This commendable association has an executive, 1-14 a judicial, and a legislative branch and seeks to ensure that 1-15 students' views are considered in university policies; in addition, 1-16 the Student Government Association holds open meetings twice a 1-17 month for students to communicate their ideas and opinions; and 1-18 WHEREAS, With more than 50 members, the Student Government 1-19 Association is concerned about the welfare of the entire student 1-20 population and is currently striving to make the university a 1-21 better place for everyone by promoting various campus-wide safety 1-22 measures; and 1-23 WHEREAS, While contributing greatly to the university, this 2-1 estimable organization develops future leaders of this state and 2-2 nation and provides an important platform for more than 11,000 2-3 students enrolled at Stephen F. Austin State University; the 2-4 Student Government Association truly serves as the voice of the 2-5 student body, and it is indeed most appropriate to pay tribute 2-6 to this fine organization at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-8 77th Legislature, hereby recognize January 24, 2001, as 2-9 Stephen F. Austin State University Student Government 2-10 Association Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution 2-12 be prepared for the Student Government Association of 2-13 Stephen F.
