 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 81
 1-3           WHEREAS, Tara Watson, the reigning Miss Texas, is a
 1-4     worthy role model for all young Texans, and her immeasurable
 1-5     contributions in this regard make her a fitting goodwill
 1-6     ambassador for the Lone Star State; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Representing Hurst-Euless-Bedford in the
 1-8     Miss Texas pageant, this remarkable young woman was crowned
 1-9     Miss Texas on July 8, 2000, and has served with great distinction
1-10     in this capacity, finishing among the top 10 contestants in the
1-11     Miss America contest held last October; and
1-12           WHEREAS, During her tenure as Miss Texas, Tara Watson has
1-13     worked diligently to increase the public's understanding and
1-14     knowledge of numerous important social issues; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Her many good works and deeds include promoting
1-16     AIDS awareness and implementing a successful child mentoring
1-17     program, "The Positive Connection," which is for children who
1-18     are either infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS; moreover, she
1-19     began an educational program for students called "Stayin' Alive";
1-20     and
1-21           WHEREAS, While representing our state, Tara has served
1-22     with outstanding leadership and dedication, and it is most
1-23     appropriate to honor her at this time; now, therefore, be it
 2-1           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-2     77th Legislature, hereby recognize January 24, 2001, as Miss Texas
 2-3     Day, and that Tara Watson be extended best wishes for continued
 2-4     good fortune and happiness in her future endeavors; and, be it
 2-5     further
 2-6           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
 2-7     prepared for Tara Watson as an expression of high regard from
 2-8     the Texas Senate.
