 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 86
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 1-4     citizens of Dallas in honoring the Reverend Dr. C. A. W. Clark, Sr.,
 1-5     for the outstanding spiritual leadership he has provided throughout
 1-6     his ministry; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Dr. Clark was called to the ministry at age 14,
 1-8     and by age 19, he was leading churches in his home state of
 1-9     Louisiana and in Tennessee; in 1950, Dr. Clark came to Texas and
1-10     began his work with the Good Street Baptist Church; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Over the years, Dr. Clark has worked to make
1-12     Good Street Baptist Church the dynamic institution of worship it
1-13     is today; for 50 years, the church has remained a source of
1-14     comfort and hope to those in great distress and a place of
1-15     fellowship and love to those who come to worship; and
1-16           WHEREAS, A powerful and gifted preacher, Dr. Clark has
1-17     traveled well beyond the borders of Texas to deliver his spiritual
1-18     message; he has preached in all 50 states and in Europe, Africa,
1-19     and the former Soviet Union; and
1-20           WHEREAS, A man esteemed not only by his church family,
1-21     but also by his community as well, Dr. Clark is the recipient
1-22     of over 100 awards and plaques which testify to his steadfast
1-23     efforts on behalf of the welfare of persons near and far; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, On January 28, 2001, Dr. Clark will be honored
 2-2     once again by both his church family and his community; the
 2-3     Dallas City Council voted unanimously to place a bronze plaque
 2-4     into the concrete facade of the Good Street Baptist Church to
 2-5     honor this distinguished gentleman's contributions to humanity;
 2-6     and
 2-7           WHEREAS, Texas faces many challenges in the new
 2-8     millennium, and the state is fortunate to count the Reverend
 2-9     Dr. Clark among its spiritual leaders; a man who will work for
2-10     life-affirming responses to the challenges Texas faces, he is
2-11     truly worthy of the esteem of his congregation and of the great
2-12     Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
2-13           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-14     77th Legislature, hereby commend and honor the
2-15     Reverend Dr. C. A. W. Clark, Sr., for his unselfish devotion
2-16     to the well-being of countless individuals throughout the state,
2-17     nation, and world; and, be it further
2-18           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-19     the Reverend Dr. C. A. W. Clark, Sr., as an expression of deepest
2-20     respect from the Texas Senate.
