1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 94 1-3 WHEREAS, On January 29, 2001, many proud residents of 1-4 Orange County will travel to Austin to celebrate their county's 1-5 rich heritage and myriad contributions to the Lone Star State; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Bordered by the Sabine and Neches rivers, 1-7 Orange County is located in far East Texas; the county was 1-8 established from a portion of Jefferson County in 1852 and was 1-9 named for the wild orange groves that graced the banks of the 1-10 Sabine during the days of French and Spanish settlement; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The fertile coastal soil of this area, combined 1-12 with a temperate climate and a long growing season, has made 1-13 Orange County a major center for the production of citrus, rice, 1-14 cotton, peas, soybeans, vegetables, nursery stock, and Christmas 1-15 trees; farmers also derive substantial income from horses, cattle, 1-16 hogs, and crayfish; and 1-17 WHEREAS, For those seeking outdoor recreation, the forests, 1-18 grasslands, rivers, and marshes, as well as easy access to the 1-19 Gulf of Mexico through Sabine Lake and Sabine Pass, offer the 1-20 promise of excellent hunting and freshwater and saltwater fishing; 1-21 the great number of exotic birds that can be found in the county 1-22 also make it a prime bird-watching area; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Orange County has established itself as a hub of 2-2 industrial activity; together with healthy timber-processing 2-3 and shipping-related industries, the county is also renowned 2-4 for its production of petrochemicals, a sector that has spawned 2-5 a spectacular miles-long stretch of steel, glass, catwalks, and 2-6 flames aptly called Chemical Row; and 2-7 WHEREAS, The county seat, Orange, boasts a host of cultural 2-8 and historical resources, including the Community Playhouse, 2-9 Lutcher Theater for the Performing Arts, and the Stark Museum of 2-10 Art, in addition to the Heritage House Museum, W. H.
