 1-5                                Lela B. Price
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Texas Senate joins the citizens of Houston in
 1-7     mourning the death of Lela B. Price, who died on December 4, 2000,
 1-8     at the age of 90; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Born in Sunnyside, Texas, in Waller County,
1-10     Mrs. Price was the daughter of the late May and Johnny Thompson;
1-11     she attended Jack Yates High School; and
1-12           WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Lela Price was active with
1-13     Progressive New Hope Baptist Church and Trinity Garden First
1-14     Baptist Church; and
1-15           WHEREAS, A woman who was passionate about life, Mrs. Price
1-16     returned value to her community as a member of the church choir,
1-17     Matron of the Youth Department, General Supervisor of the Citywide
1-18     Juniors and Tiny Tots Choir, and General Supervisor of the Houston
1-19     Citywide Chorus; and
1-20           WHEREAS, A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and
1-21     great-grandmother, she is remembered for the affection, confidence,
 2-1     and loyalty she inspired in those with whom she was associated; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, A respected and beloved member of her community,
 2-3     Lela B. Price will be remembered for her devotion to her family,
 2-4     her church, and her friends; she leaves a legacy of compassion and
 2-5     commitment which will be cherished by those who knew and loved her;
 2-6     now, therefore, be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-8     77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
 2-9     members of the family of Lela B. Price:  her daughters, Helen Coby,
2-10     Hazel Davis, and Leonell Oliver; her son, Michael David; her
2-11     stepson, Lester B. Price; and her 10 grandchildren and many
2-12     great-grandchildren; and, be it further
2-13           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2-14     members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
2-15     the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it
2-16     do so in memory of Lela B. Price.
