1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 139 1-3 WHEREAS, Tejano R.O.O.T.S. (Remembering Our Own Tejano 1-4 Stars), Inc., a nonprofit organization chartered on June 9, 1999, 1-5 established the Tejano R.O.O.T.S. Hall of Fame Museum to pay 1-6 tribute to the rich heritage of Tejano music while promoting 1-7 and honoring Tejano musicians past and present; the Board of 1-8 Directors of Tejano R.O.O.T.S. are Serapio Serna Jr., 1-9 Javier Villanueva, Orlando Chapa, Juan Sifuentes, 1-10 Judge L. Arnold Saenz, Rito Silva, Joe Lozano, Manuel Ramirez Jr., 1-11 and Tony Morris, who along with the Advisory Council consisting of, 1-12 Robert Ortiz Jr., Manny Garcia Jr., Lucila Reynolds, John Vela, 1-13 Manuel Ayala, Terry Drake, Ben Garcia, Grace Saenz-Lopez, 1-14 Daniel Amador, Ruben Cadena, and Fred Farias, preserve, maintain, 1-15 promote and showcase the historical documents, artifacts and audio 1-16 and visual recordings of Tejano music heritage and industry; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Tejano R.O.O.T.S. Hall of Fame Museum recognizes 1-18 the invaluable contributions of artists, musicians, composers, 1-19 producers and many others who contributed to Tejano musical 1-20 heritage; these talented musicians combine Mexican and Anglo 1-21 American sounds with various aspects of African American, German, 1-22 Italian, Cuban and Czech musical traditions to create the style 1-23 and variety found in this uniquely diverse genre of music; and 2-1 WHEREAS, The Tejano R.O.O.T.S. Hall of Fame Museum 2-2 has recognized the talent of such artists as Sunny Ozuna, 2-3 Carlos Guzman, Laura Canales, Armando Lichtenberger Jr., 2-4 Armando Hinojosa Jr., Juan Hinojosa, Armando Marroquin Sr., 2-5 Paco Betancourt, Domingo Pena, Sylvestre Amadeo Flores, 2-6 Ruben Naranjo, Tony Dela Rosa, Mike Chavez, 2-7 Juan Antonio Sifuentes, Beto Villa and Narciso Martinez; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Alice, Texas, has been recognized as 2-9 "The Birthplace of Tejano" dating back to the mid 1940's where 2-10 Armando Marroquin, Sr., and Paco Betancourt established the 2-11 first recording company to record Tejano artists exclusively, 2-12 Ideal Records, that was based in Alice; Armando Marroquin also 2-13 owned a jukebox company and insured Ideal recordings would be 2-14 distributed throughout South Texas and started the careers of 2-15 many Tejano stars; and 2-16 WHEREAS, Currently, Tejano music is a huge industry and 2-17 major record labels have begun to recognize and invest millions 2-18 of dollars; the Tejano R.O.O.T.S. Hall of Fame Museum gives an 2-19 impressive setting which people from throughout the state, 2-20 nation, and world may view and understand a part of our national 2-21 heritage; now, therefore, be it 2-22 RESOLVED, That the Texas Senate, 77th Legislature, 2-23 hereby commend Tejano R.O.O.T.S., Inc. for establishing the 2-24 Tejano R.O.O.T.S.
