 1-5                            Denise Alexander Cook
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 1-7     of Houston in mourning the loss of Denise Alexander Cook, who died
 1-8     November 11, 2000; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Devoting her life to her family and her friends,
1-10     this remarkable woman will be affectionately remembered for her
1-11     deep sense of purpose and her dauntless spirit; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Born March 25, 1956, in Chicago Heights, Illinois,
1-13     to Rose and Willie Alexander, Denise attended Mount Vernon
1-14     Elementary School and Fenger High School and received her bachelor
1-15     of arts degree in sociology from Bishop College in Dallas; and
1-16           WHEREAS, A woman of unshakable faith in God, Denise lived
1-17     each day according to His will; an active member of Brentwood
1-18     Baptist Church and Friendship West Baptist Church, she found the
1-19     inner strength to face life's challenges; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Denise's uniqueness allowed her to form bonds of
 2-2     love that will be forever treasured; her presence will be deeply
 2-3     missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of all
 2-4     whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be it
 2-5           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas hereby extend
 2-6     sincere condolences to the family of Denise Alexander Cook:  her
 2-7     husband, Henry Cook; her son, Larry Dean Smith; and her mother,
 2-8     Rose Alexander; and, be it further
 2-9           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2-10     members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
2-11     Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
2-12     in memory of Denise Alexander Cook.
