 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 149
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is extremely
 1-4     proud to recognize the El Paso Lighthouse for the Blind for
 1-5     its outstanding work on behalf of the visually impaired; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Established in 1934 with the extremely generous
 1-7     support of the El Paso Section of the National Council of Jewish
 1-8     Women, the Lighthouse has participated in innumerable praiseworthy
 1-9     projects designed to improve the quality of life for the visually
1-10     impaired, blind, and multi-handicapped visually impaired; and
1-11           WHEREAS, By utilizing a wide array of services and programs
1-12     that include the Fred T. Hervey Low Vision Clinic, the
1-13     J. Edward and Helen M. C. Stern Ocular Services Clinic, the
1-14     Brown-McAfee-Smith Elderly Blind Program, the Robert E. and
1-15     Evelyn McKee Technology Evaluation and Training Center, the
1-16     Fan and I. B. Goodman Visual Aids Store, and the Lighthouse
1-17     Resource Center, the El Paso Lighthouse has been able to meet
1-18     the unique challenges of its clients; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Promoting self-sufficiency and independence
1-20     by offering access to the Sierra-Providence Health Network
1-21     Rehabilitation Apartment, on-the-job training, employment
1-22     services, and an audio reading service, the Lighthouse focuses
1-23     on building self-esteem and creating opportunities for positive
 2-1     growth; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, In helping to reshape lives by consistently meeting
 2-3     the many social, recreational, educational, and cultural needs
 2-4     of its clients, this outstanding organization is nationally
 2-5     recognized by The American Federation for the Blind, National
 2-6     Industries for the Blind, and Texas Industries for the Blind; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, Vital to the welfare of infants, children, and
 2-8     adults throughout the Southwest region of Texas, southern
 2-9     New Mexico, and northern Mexico, the El Paso Lighthouse
2-10     for the Blind is worthy of legislative recognition; now,
2-11     therefore, be it
2-12           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-13     77th Legislature, hereby commend the El Paso Lighthouse for
2-14     the Blind on its many accomplishments and extend sincere
2-15     appreciation for its invaluable assistance to enhance the
2-16     lives of so many; and, be it further
2-17           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as
2-18     an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
