1-1 ****** NEED TWO-PAGE HEADER ****** 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 176 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 1-4 recognize Burl Davis, who recently retired from the Texas AFL-CIO, 1-5 the state's labor federation, after nearly 40 years as its 1-6 bookkeeper; and 1-7 WHEREAS, The Texas AFL-CIO owes much of its reputation as 1-8 a first-rate organization to his work as bookkeeper; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Burl Davis kept impeccable 1-10 financial records by making certain that all receipts and 1-11 expenditures were accounted for properly; consequently, the 1-12 annual independent audits of the organization's finances were 1-13 consistently free of controversy; and 1-14 WHEREAS, During his tenure, Mr. Davis handled his 1-15 responsibilities with exceptional dedication, allowing the 1-16 organization to pursue its mission free of audit concerns and 1-17 to faithfully serve the needs of its 230,000 state members; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Mr. Davis was admired in the organization for his 1-19 dependability and reliable judgment, as well as for his friendly 1-20 and jocular nature and ability to lighten up the atmosphere in 2-1 the workplace; and 2-2 WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished gentleman with a 2-3 warm sense of humor, Burl Davis is beloved and respected by his 2-4 former colleagues at work, and his presence as bookkeeper for 2-5 the Texas AFL-CIO will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-7 77th Legislature, hereby commend Burl Davis on his years of 2-8 superior work as bookkeeper and his many contributions to the 2-9 Texas AFL-CIO and extend to him best wishes for the retirement 2-10 years ahead; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-12 him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-13 Barrientos 2-14 ______________________________________ 2-15 President of the Senate 2-16 I hereby certify that the above 2-17 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-18 on February 5, 2001. 2-19 ______________________________________ 2-20 Secretary of the Senate 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 Member, Texas Senate
