 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 177
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
 1-4     join the citizens of Dallas in recognizing Ismael "Bob" Morales
 1-5     on the notable occasion of his retirement from the West Dallas
 1-6     Multipurpose Center; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, In appreciation of his outstanding contributions,
 1-8     this esteemed gentleman is being honored on February 6, 2001,
 1-9     by his colleagues; he has earned the admiration and respect of
1-10     all those who were associated with the center throughout his
1-11     career; and
1-12           WHEREAS, The native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, was born
1-13     January 18, 1935, and moved with his family to New York City
1-14     in 1938; graduating from high school with honors, Mr. Morales
1-15     served in the United States Air Force before enrolling in
1-16     Georgia Southern College, where he received a bachelor of
1-17     science degree in education in 1960; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Prior to joining the Environmental and Health
1-19     Services Department of the City of Dallas, Bob had an extensive
1-20     career in public health; from 1960 to 1963 he was with the
1-21     Georgia Department of Health and in 1990 he retired from the
1-22     United States Public Health Service; and 
 2-1           WHEREAS, Beginning his employment with the City of Dallas in
 2-2     1991, he assumed his position with the West Dallas Multipurpose
 2-3     Center in 1992; respected for his honesty and integrity, he
 2-4     established goals for the center that included expanded services
 2-5     and opportunities for the citizens of the area and developed the
 2-6     plans to achieve those goals; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, For 10 years this dynamic individual made invaluable
 2-8     contributions to the quality of life in Dallas, and his varied
 2-9     and notable achievements include:  institution of the annual Health
2-10     and Fun Fair; establishment of the West Dallas Community Coalition
2-11     and the West Dallas Seniors Coalition; development of the annual
2-12     Love Connection Program and the annual West Dallas Volunteers
2-13     Award Banquet; implementation of a plan to address community needs
2-14     through strategic planning; and organization of a youth basketball
2-15     fundraising activity; and
2-16           WHEREAS, Whether it be a Thanksgiving food drive, a Christmas
2-17     toy project, a Juneteenth celebration, Hispanic Heritage Month,
2-18     Black History Month, or a Cinco de Mayo celebration, Bob Morales
2-19     gave freely of his time and abilities to ensure success; and
2-20           WHEREAS, Throughout his professional career, Bob has been
2-21     strengthened by the love and support of his wife of 43 years,
2-22     JoNelle Lanier, and his three wonderful children, Toni Lynn,
2-23     Gregory Allen, and Glen Eric; and
2-24           WHEREAS, His loyalty to the center and the residents of
 3-1     West Dallas is expressed in his devotion to his job and the people
 3-2     he so conscientiously served; now, therefore, be it
 3-3           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 3-4     77th Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to
 3-5     Ismael "Bob" Morales on his retirement from the West Dallas
 3-6     Multipurpose Center and extend best wishes for the future; and,
 3-7     be it further
 3-8           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
 3-9     as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
