1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 219 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas proudly commends 1-4 Groner Pitts for his lifetime of exemplary work championing the 1-5 needs of the citizens of Brownwood, Texas; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Widely regarded as "Brownwood's Greatest Lobbyist," 1-7 Groner is said to know almost every legislator, office manager, 1-8 and guard in Washington, D.C.; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The city's greatest cheerleader, Groner is a 1-10 diehard Brownwood enthusiast and a lover of all things Brownwood; 1-11 and 1-12 WHEREAS, While in our nation's capital, Groner regularly 1-13 distributed bags of Brownwood pecans to various people and 1-14 even arranged to have the National Guard fly a Brownwood pecan 1-15 tree to Washington, D.C., which Congressman Jake Pickle had 1-16 planted on the Capitol grounds; and 1-17 WHEREAS, When he is not in Washington, D.C., Groner is 1-18 back home organizing game plans, hootenannies, shindigs, and 1-19 various other activities to make Brownwood an even better place 1-20 to live; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Among his many great feats, Groner managed to bring 1-22 legendary comedian Bob Hope and singer Anita Bryant to Brownwood; 1-23 he also procured state and federal money to have a new spectacular 2-1 National Guard Armory established at Brownwood which was named 2-2 in his honor; it is the only armory in the United States named 2-3 after a living person; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Without ever having served as an elected official 2-5 or paid as a lobbyist, Groner has accumulated more political clout 2-6 than any other Brownwood citizen; and he has used his considerable 2-7 influence in a just and righteous manner; and 2-8 WHEREAS, An altruist whose self-effacing charm has more than 2-9 won over his community, Groner can claim a special place in the 2-10 hearts of all Brownwood citizens, who know, that his sincere wish 2-11 is to improve the City of Brownwood and to serve its people; now, 2-12 therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-14 77th Legislature, hereby commend Groner Pitts for his unwavering 2-15 devotion to citizens of Brownwood and his many years of work on 2-16 their behalf; and, be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared 2-18 for Groner Pitts as a token of the highest esteem from the 2-19 Texas Senate. 2-20 Fraser 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 President of the Senate 2-23 I hereby certify that the above 2-24 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-25 on February 12, 2001. 2-26 ______________________________________ 2-27 Secretary of the Senate 2-28 ______________________________________ 2-29 Member, Texas Senate
