 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 221
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased
 1-4     to recognize the fourth biennial Texas Capitol Schoolhouse
 1-5     event, which is being celebrated in the Capitol Rotunda
 1-6     February 15 through 16, 2001; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, The Texas Capitol Schoolhouse event gives students
 1-8     and teachers from across the state the opportunity to demonstrate
 1-9     how technology is used in their schools and to provide information
1-10     to legislators and state leaders on how these technologies improve
1-11     the learning process; and
1-12           WHEREAS, The fourth biennial Texas Capitol Schoolhouse
1-13     event is being sponsored by Apple Computer, AeA Texas Council,
1-14     AMD, Motorola, M/c/c, Texas Instruments, Intel, National
1-15     Semiconductor, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, Advantage Graphics,
1-16     Fulbright & Jaworski, Barrett Kendall Publishing, Internet
1-17     Schoolhouse, and Lightspan; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Approximately 13 school districts are participating
1-19     in the 2001 Schoolhouse, and students will participate in a wide
1-20     variety of activities, including technology demonstrations,
1-21     meetings with state officials, capitol and legislative events, a
1-22     Capitol Assembly with state education leaders, and work on school
1-23     projects and other class assignments; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Largely due to the continuing efforts of the
 2-2     Texas Legislature and other state agencies, Texas is one of the
 2-3     leading states in the nation in providing financial support for
 2-4     educational technology; Texas schools spend more than a quarter
 2-5     of a billion dollars every year to plan for and implement
 2-6     technology in our public schools; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, The fourth biennial Texas Capitol Schoolhouse
 2-8     provides an excellent opportunity for legislators and the public
 2-9     to observe firsthand how students are utilizing and integrating
2-10     technology in learning, and how technology in the public schools
2-11     today is helping to prepare the children of Texas for the 21st
2-12     century; now, therefore, be it
2-13           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-14     77th Legislature, hereby commend the sponsors of the fourth
2-15     biennial Texas Capitol Schoolhouse on providing the state with
2-16     this invaluable educational event; and, be it further
2-17           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
2-18     honor of the fourth biennial Texas Capitol Schoolhouse event as
2-19     an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
