1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 224 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-4 recognize an exemplary gentleman, Roy Joseph Brandys; a devoted 1-5 husband and loving father and grandfather, he has earned the love 1-6 and affection of all who know him; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Born February 16, 1921, Roy grew up in the 1-8 working-class neighborhoods of Chicago's north and west sides; as a 1-9 young man, Roy earned a reputation as a capable student and a fine 1-10 craftsman, who possessed an ability to build and fix things; and 1-11 WHEREAS, After attending Holy Innocence Grade School and 1-12 Crane Tech High School, Roy volunteered for World War II; he 1-13 served his country faithfully from 1942 through 1946 as a member 1-14 of the United States Army Air Corps, working as crew chief of the 1-15 P-38s while stationed in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East; he 1-16 ultimately earned the rank of sergeant; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Following his wartime service, Roy returned to 1-18 Chicago and established a much-loved and successful venue, 1-19 Alroy's Liquor Store and Cocktail Bar, where community members 1-20 enjoyed themselves after a hard day's work; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Roy ran his popular establishment until 1962, 1-22 when he left the business to become a truck driver for Goldblatt's 1-23 Department Store, an occupation which he retired from in 1987; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Family and friends have consistently played the 2-2 most important role in Roy's life; he always put his children 2-3 first, making time to attend their athletic games and other 2-4 functions, and he is widely respected by residents of his 2-5 neighborhood as a community leader; and 2-6 WHEREAS, On November 3, 2001, Roy will be married 50 years 2-7 to the cherished partner of his life, Evelyn Geraldine Schank; he 2-8 and his wife are the proud parents of two children, Roy and Donna; 2-9 Roy and Evelyn also treasure their five grandchildren, Lyndzee, 2-10 Dylan, Tyler, Ellen, and Megan; and 2-11 WHEREAS, Over the years, Roy's wisdom, warmth, and valued 2-12 counsel have been a source of comfort and strength to many; a man 2-13 of unflinching integrity and steadfast generosity, Roy is truly 2-14 worthy of the highest praise; now, therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-16 77th Legislature, hereby recognize Roy Joseph Brandys for his 2-17 many accomplishments; and, be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-19 Mr. Brandys as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. 2-20 Shapleigh 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 President of the Senate 2-23 I hereby certify that the above 2-24 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-25 on February 12, 2001. 2-26 ______________________________________ 2-27 Secretary of the Senate 2-28 ______________________________________ 2-29 Member, Texas Senate
