 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 228
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud of one
 1-4     of its citizens, Jarad Lee Kent, who has earned the esteemed rank
 1-5     of Eagle Scout and is holding his Eagle Scout Court of Honor on
 1-6     March 1, 2001; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Jarad advanced through the ranks of Tenderfoot,
 1-8     Second, First, Star, and Life classes before attaining the rank
 1-9     of Eagle Scout, and he becomes one of the privileged few who
1-10     ever achieve this distinguished honor; and
1-11           WHEREAS, To obtain his Eagle Badge, Jarad conducted a
1-12     service project, constructing two concrete baseball dugouts at
1-13     Bishop Thomas K. Gorman High School; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Completing the requirements for his Eagle Scout
1-15     Badge was especially challenging for Jarad, as he completed the
1-16     final stages of his project one day before undergoing one of
1-17     several surgeries to remove a tumor; industrious and determined,
1-18     Jarad finished his project summary write-up while in the hospital;
1-19     and
1-20           WHEREAS, A dynamic, hardworking young man, Jarad has
1-21     consistently demonstrated academic excellence at school; he
1-22     has also proven himself a fine athlete, lettering three years
1-23     in varsity high school football, two years in varsity track, and
 2-1     four years in varsity golf; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Many of our nation's finest educational institutions
 2-3     have recognized Jarad's talent and potential; he has been awarded
 2-4     a Congressional Nomination to the United States Naval Academy and
 2-5     has also been accepted at the Virginia Military Institute, the
 2-6     Citadel, and the Catholic University of America; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, Jarad brings great honor to himself, his family,
 2-8     and his troop in earning the coveted Eagle Badge; this young
 2-9     man has exhibited great bravery and perseverence in the face of
2-10     life-threatening circumstances, and he is truly worthy of
2-11     legislative commendation; now, therefore, be it
2-12           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-13     77th Legislature, hereby commend Jarad Lee Kent on his
2-14     outstanding achievement and extend to him best wishes for
2-15     a bright future; and, be it further
2-16           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-17     Eagle Scout Kent as an expression of admiration from the
2-18     Texas Senate.
