1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 229 1-3 WHEREAS, Whether it be through his acting or his extensive 1-4 work in the community, Larry Hagman is a leader and role model, 1-5 and his many good works and deeds are indeed worthy of special 1-6 legislative recognition; and 1-7 WHEREAS, This Weatherford native's ongoing and invaluable 1-8 efforts have had a positive impact on countless lives, and his 1-9 involvement in the community includes having served as chairman 1-10 for the American Cancer Society's "Great American Smokeout" and 1-11 as a national spokesperson for the National Kidney Foundation's 1-12 United States Transplant Games, an Olympic-style event for 1-13 recipients of lifesaving organ transplants of every type; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Currently serving as a board member of the 1-15 National Kidney Foundation's Transplant America, he continues 1-16 to urge people to become organ donors while vigorously spreading 1-17 the word about the serious repercussions of alcohol and substance 1-18 abuse; and 1-19 WHEREAS, A versatile actor of considerable talents, 1-20 Larry Hagman has appeared in numerous films, television shows, 1-21 and theatrical productions; moreover, he served as the host of 1-22 Lone Star, an eight-part documentary series on the history 2-1 of our state that was televised in the fall of 1985 as Texas 2-2 celebrated its 150th anniversary of its independence; and 2-3 WHEREAS, No biography of his illustrious career would be 2-4 complete without mention of his portrayal of J. R. Ewing on the 2-5 immensely popular and long-running television series Dallas; the 2-6 show ran for an impressive 13 seasons and can still be seen in 2-7 reruns, and there are few television viewers anywhere who do not 2-8 know the name J.
