 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 231
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is extremely
 1-4     pleased to recognize Shelli Soto, who is being named Law School
 1-5     Administrator of the Year on March 1, 2001; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Intelligent and hardworking, Shelli is a graduate
 1-7     of The University of Texas at Austin, where she received a degree
 1-8     in economics and her doctor of jurisprudence degree; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, While attending law school, Shelli distinguished
1-10     herself as an exemplary student and a leader; her diverse interests
1-11     led to a clerkship with the Environmental Defense Fund, the Federal
1-12     Deposit Insurance Corporation, and the Austin law firm of Lloyd,
1-13     Gosselink, Fowler, Blevins, and Mathews; and
1-14           WHEREAS, A well-respected member of the law school's
1-15     administration since 1994, Shelli currently serves as Assistant
1-16     Dean for Admissions and strives to ensure that only the best and
1-17     brightest enter the law school; and
1-18           WHEREAS, A Law School Admissions Council member from
1-19     1997 through 1999, Shelli is widely regarded as being one of the
1-20     top recruiters in the nation; due to her dedication to increasing
 2-1     minority enrollment, the class of 2000 minority enrollment more than
 2-2     doubled in size over the number of Hispanics and African-Americans
 2-3     in the class of 1999; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, Shelli Soto is a high achiever who establishes
 2-5     goals and pursues them with perseverance and clear-sightedness;
 2-6     her tireless efforts on behalf of others are truly admirable and
 2-7     worthy of recognition; now, therefore, be it
 2-8           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-9     77th Legislature, hereby commend Shelli Soto on being named Law
2-10     School Administrator of the Year and extend to her best wishes
2-11     for success in the years ahead; and, be it further
2-12           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-13     her as a token of esteem and high regard from the Texas Senate.
