 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 239
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is pleased to recognize the
 1-4     honorees of this year's annual Seymour Chamber of Commerce
 1-5     Banquet, the farmers and ranchers of Seymour and Baylor County,
 1-6     whose economic contributions to the area have been of great
 1-7     benefit to the people of their community; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, This year's Chamber of Commerce Banquet is being
 1-9     held on February 17, 2001; and
1-10           WHEREAS, The whole farming and ranching community is a group
1-11     of dedicated and hardworking citizens, who constitute about 75
1-12     percent of the economic base of Seymour and Baylor County; and
1-13           WHEREAS, The entire economic structure of Seymour and
1-14     Baylor County is dependent on agriculture, as is the case in
1-15     many rural areas in the state; if the farming and ranching
1-16     entities have a bad year or decade, the community has a bad
1-17     year or decade; and
1-18           WHEREAS, An integral part of Baylor County's social fabric
1-19     and makeup, farmers and ranchers make up at least 50 percent of
1-20     the county's population; and
1-21           WHEREAS, These good citizens are the backbone of area schools,
1-22     churches, local governments, businesses, clubs, and organizations;
 2-1     and
 2-2           WHEREAS, They and their ancestors are responsible for
 2-3     building their local communities, and these farmers and
 2-4     ranchers have the biggest part of maintaining those same
 2-5     communities; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, There is a large and active agriculture program at
 2-7     Seymour High School, and it has prepared many students for careers
 2-8     in agribusiness; certainly this year's honorees are deserving of
 2-9     legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-11     77th Legislature, hereby congratulate and commend the farmers
2-12     and ranchers of Seymour and Baylor County, honorees of the
2-13     Seymour Chamber of Commerce at this year's banquet; and, be
2-14     it further
2-15           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-16     them as an expression of the highest regard of the Texas Senate.
